Research summary:  

She is an Associate Professor at the Department of Earth Sciences of the University of Milan, a position she has held since 2020. Her scientific expertise lies in Micropaleontology, with a specialization in Mesozoic calcareous nannofossils. Her research primarily focuses on biostratigraphy, and paleoceanographic and paleoclimate reconstructions across key intervals of Earth’s history.

Her work explores the response of nannoplankton to extreme paleoenvironmental events, with particular emphasis on Mesozoic Oceanic Anoxic Events (OAEs). She investigates the effects of such events on nannoplankton calcification and evolution, and reconstructs past atmospheric CO₂ levels and climate conditions across critical time intervals. A focus of her research is understanding the relationship between changes in coccolith size, morphology, and mineralogy and paleoenvironmental perturbations using both traditional and innovative methodologies.

She has taught undergraduate courses in Paleontology and Paleoecology, as well as graduate-level courses in Micropaleontology and Paleontological Heritage. She has served as principal investigator and coordinator in several national and international research projects. She is the author and co-author of 46 scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals and books, with a total citation count exceeding 2,000.
