The Industrial & Environmental Applications in Micropaleontology (IdEA-M) MSc program is based in the Laboratory of Historical Geology and BioGeosciences in the Department of Geology & Geoenvironment.

The laboratory provides the following services: thin sections of rocks, sediments and fossils; extraction and preparation of fossils; construction of fossil casts; identification of nanno-, micro-, macro- fossils and palynomorphs; biostratigraphic analyses; carbonate microfacies; analysis of sediments and sedimentary environments; preparation of samples for stable isotope analysis; marine geology surveys; protection of geological heritage, etc.

The Laboratory facilities include:

• hall/room, with PCs and stereomicroscopes
• polarizing microscopy room with polarizing microscopes and digital image analysis capabilities
• optical microscopy room with optical microscopes and digital image analysis capabilities
• electron microscopy room with installed Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) connected to X-ray Microanalysis system (WDS)
• Fully equipped wet laboratory for the processing of nanno-, micro- and macro- fossils and preparation of geological and palaeontological samples for study in polarized and electron microscopy
• Fully equipped laboratory for the preparation of thin sections of rocks, sediments and fossils
