Maria Triantaphyllou

Research summary: Her research interests are encompassing classical Micropaleontology, Environmental Micropaleontology, Stratigraphy, Paleoceanography and Paleoclimate, Geological Heritage and Geological MonumentsShe has been involved in national and international projects, bringing to them her expertise in the biology and ecology of the living coccolithophores, and the stratigraphic and paleoecologic/paleoclimatic application of Cenozoic and Upper Cretaceous calcareous nannoplankton assemblages

Besides promoting coccolithophore and benthic foraminifera research, she also strongly participates in the teaching of Micropaleontology, and has taught the undergraduate course in Micropaleontology at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens for the last 20 years. During the last five years she coordinates the greek-spoken joint MSc program “Micropaleontology-Biostratigraphy”.

She has co-authored three books and more than 140 papers in peer-reviewed journals. She is member of the Steering Committee of MECLIVAR network, cocoordinator of the Greek-sector of International Association for Promotion of Geoethics  and an active/voting member of the Subcommission on Neogene Stratigraphy and the Aptian Working Group of the International Commission on Stratigraphy.
